THREAD LIFTS

Thread lift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure for treating sagging skin in areas like the neck, cheeks and the jowls. This minimally invasive technique involves the use of surgical suture thread for lifting up the sagging skin.

It is vital to note that thread lift is not a proxy for a face lift. Thread lift gives subtle changes and buys you more time before a face lift may be needed.

You are a candidate if you:

  • Are between 30 – 40 years of age
  • Want to restore your features by treating premature aging of your skin
  • Are looking for a cure for your lose sagging cheeks or neck
  • Do not want to opt for surgical face-lift
  • Want a faster solution for sagging skin

The Procedure

Thread lift treatment is usually done under local anesthesia and is performed as an outpatient procedure. Lasting up to an hour, the procedure involves the use of dissolvable surgical suture threads inserted into a patient’s skin through a needle. This enables lifting up of the skin. The embedment of the barbed thread into the skin encourages fibrosis, thereby leading to production of collagen. The collagen thus formed lifts up the skin and makes it firmer.

A routine thread lift procedure uses anywhere between 2 – 20 threads. The patients are discharged within few hours of the procedure. Patients may feel slight discomfort and swelling around the treated area. However, within 2-3 days, these symptoms will subside.

Advantages

The biggest advantage of thread lift is its low recovery time. You can be back on your feet performing routine activities in as little as 2-3 days. Some of the other benefits of a thread lift include:

  • Helps reduce signs of aging skin
  • Relatively safe
  • Minimally invasive
  • No visible scars
  • Quick recovery
  • Less painful

After-Care

Your cosmetic surgeon will advise you on post-treatment care. Some of the things you can do to minimize discomfort and encourage speedy recovery include:

  • Having someone to drive you back from the procedure and assist you in daily activities for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
  • Speaking less to encourage quicker healing of the skin
  • Taking the prescribed pain medications on time
  • Having a soft diet for a period of 24 hours after the treatment
  • Keeping your head in an elevated position helps minimize swelling

Side Effects

Like any other cosmetic procedure, thread lifts are not 100% safe and have some side effects. These include:

  • Bruising of the treated area
  • Swelling and redness
  • Numbness in the affected area
  • Infections
  • Shifting of threads from the original position

A routine thread lift procedure uses anywhere between 2 – 20 threads. The patients are discharged within few hours of the procedure. Patients may feel slight discomfort and swelling around the treated area. However, within 2-3 days, these symptoms will subside.

It is recommended to always check the credentials of the surgeon before going ahead with the thread lift. Discuss all your concerns well ahead of the procedure so that you are fully prepared.
